Masks

Rebuild the older person and skin masks Portrait photos already carry a person mask and a skin mask from the camera. They are resized and re-encoded into the new slots and take priority over the person model. Find faces and draw lips, nose and eyebrows A small face model runs on your device. Getting the file back onto your iPhone

Use AirDrop, iCloud Drive / Files or a cable, then save the file to Photos from the Files app. Sharing through the Photos app or a chat app can re-encode the photo and drop the added data. On an iPhone the picker here asks for HEIC files only, so Safari hands over the original photo instead of converting it to JPEG. If your photo still arrives as a JPEG, choose it from Files.

What this changes

The photo itself is kept exactly as it is. PearStyle3 adds a small block of Styles 3 metadata: a texture_styles item and 12 part masks (nose, lips, teeth, eyebrows, skin and so on). Photos then offers the Styles 3 editor. Masks are filled where they can be made: person and skin from the photo's own older masks, and lips, nose and eyebrows (and teeth if the mouth is open) from face landmarks. The rest stay blank, which means "nothing detected". These are approximations of what an iPhone 18 Pro records, not Apple's own output. In one informal test on an iPhone 17 Pro Max, film grain looked softer on a face when the person and skin masks were present.

Limits

Tested on iPhone 17 Pro Max photos. Other models, and photos edited or re-saved elsewhere, may be refused or behave differently.
Apple's own Styles 3 pipeline also stores per-face data in the photo. This tool does not create it, so skin-smoothing style options may have no effect.
Pictures that are not iPhone originals are rebuilt as new HEIC files: upright, Display P3, no HDR, and they claim to be from an iPhone 17 Pro Max so Photos accepts them. The original file is untouched.
Photos that already contain Styles 3 data (from an iPhone 18 Pro) are left alone.

Third-party components

Photos are decoded with libheif and libde265 (LGPL-3.0) and faces are found with MediaPipe (Apache-2.0), both compiled to WebAssembly and served unmodified from this site. Type is set in Bricolage Grotesque, Instrument Sans and DM Mono (SIL Open Font License). Licences and sources are listed in vendor/LICENSES.txt.

Privacy

The page is static. The conversion runs in your browser and the photo is never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded (and the face model, if you use it), you can go offline and it still works.
